Rescue

ISN’T IT AWESOME WHEN YOU KNOW GOD IS LOOKING OUT FOR YOU?  Well, on this particular day, God arranged it so that both of my fathers; God, himself, and Dad were watching me!

I was still new to riding the bus. (I’ve already written about my very first bus ride in a previous blog post.) This would be another bus ride home after finishing my classes at Sinclair Community College in downtown Dayton. I remember the day was very cold and I had already been waiting for the bus for some time.  I don’t worry about bus schedules; I just show up and start waiting!  The bus finally came!  The bus driver put down the lift to get my scooter and me onto the bus. The lift stopped a couple inches off the ground, enough that I could not drive my scooter onto the lift. The driver had to maneuver me and my scooter up onto the lift.  I’ll be completely honest; I’m no skinny little toothpick and I guess by then my brain was frozen.  Looking back I should have offered to get off my scooter and walk onto the bus, so the driver would only have to lift my scooter, but I just remained on my scooter.

Back then I didn’t trust the bus straps to hold, so once aboard the bus, I’d get off my scooter and move into a seat. I thought that if the bus ever came to an abrupt stop and my scooter went crashing through the front windshield, I DEFINITELY DID NOT WANT TO BE ON IT!  Once safely aboard the bus, I proceeded to get off my scooter and take a bus seat, right close to the driver. He looked back and saw me on that seat; he angrily said (I felt he was yelling), “You mean you can walk!”.  He really scared me! I WAS DEFINITELY NOT GOING TO RIDE HIS BUS! I was crying and scared!!!!  I jumped up and ran off the bus as quickly as I could.  This was when I still could walk and I used my scooter mainly for distances.

GOD IS SO VERY, VERY, VERY AWESOME!!!! God arranged for one RTA (I’m pretty sure two, but not completely sure) supervisor to be standing outside the bus. One of the RTA supervisors asked me what happened.  I was crying and couldn’t really talk!  I didn’t want to get the driver mad or in trouble in case we met up again!

A couple minutes later, Dad appeared!  He had seen the whole scenario play out from his downtown office window!  (Dad worked on an upper floor of the 28 story Mead building.) My LOVING HEAVENLY FATHER HAD SENT MY LOVING EARTHLY FATHER TO RESCUE ME AND TAKE ME HOME!

Dad, called the RTA bus company and pled my case and explained my situation.  The driver and I apologized to each other! From then on, we did fine!

So, remember when you think you’re alone. God himself is there with you; loving and protecting you!   He often has strategically placed his messengers to come and comfort you!

Hey Cate! Thanks for another insightful blog post!

I think there is an underlying message here to be mindful of what others are going through that we don’t know or don’t see. The bus driver had no idea about your mobility issues, and you had no idea of what kind of day he was having or his life experiences in general. Instead of being quick to make assumptions, we should try to empathize with others and avoid judgement. This is much easier said than done, but it takes a lot of wisdom to implement on a daily basis.

Thanks again for sharing this week’s blog post!

I know that delicious feeling of realizing my Father in heaven has rescued me through earthly means, it is such a feeling of being loved and protected. Joy unspeakable and full of glory, what a good Father He is! Thanks for reminding me.
You gave me another great life lesson too: “I don’t worry about bus schedules, I just show up and start waiting!” I want to be more like that… thanks for these reminders and the laughter, you’re a blessing to me.

What I love about you Cate-you always give a hearty effort to not make an already hard situation into one that brings consequences that can’t be changed! Like God, you seek reconciliation and restoration before pressing forward with irreversible decisions that bring death to relationships. I love you and I’m so glad you are my friend! I’m so thankful for all you have taught me about the character of God by modeling His love. I don’t deserve His love and I don’t deserve yours either. I am so glad He gave you to me, to show me the way to His heart. 🤗
